Milan, 3 November 2026 – Azienda Trasporti Verona (ATV), has been recognized for their collaboration with Stellar, a provider of resilient connectivity solutions, in improving connectivity across Verona's public transport network through intelligent multi-operator technology.

ATV has been distinguished for the implementation of Stellar’s intelligent M2M connectivity solution that enables cards to automatically connect to the best-performing mobile network as they travel, overcoming the limitations of traditional single-operator connectivity, and rapidly demonstrating an improvement in minimizing time without connection.

The award was presented to Simone Veneri, Head of IT at ATV, who highlighted the solution’s impact on their operations. Simone shared that “with the evolution of onboard systems, uninterrupted connectivity has become a fundamental requirement. Stellar’s technology has allowed us to take a significant step forward, ensuring maximum reliability of digital services.”

The SMAU Innovation Award is a prestigious Italian recognition presented to companies, corporations and public administrations that successfully advance digital transformation, open innovation and organizational or product innovation. The award celebrates projects that translate innovative technologies into tangible improvements in business operations and public services.

Innovation that allows operations to flow without disruptions

ATV operates more than 550 buses, serving over 56 million passengers annually. Its fleet relies on cellular connectivity for electronic ticketing, vehicle monitoring, passenger information and communication with central control systems. For ATV’s needs Stellar's solution provides access to all national mobile networks in Italy through a single SIM card and contract, eliminating dependence on any individual operator.

Unlike conventional SIM technology, Stellar continuously evaluates network performance to identify the optimal connection. When performance deteriorates, the SIM automatically switches operators in less than two seconds. By reassessing network conditions every 10 seconds, the technology maintains reliable connectivity as vehicles move between coverage areas, minimizing disruption to connected onboard systems.

Proven results across Verona's public transportation network

Field trials on ATV routes with challenging cellular coverage demonstrated substantial improvements. Connectivity interruptions previously exceeding several minutes were reduced to just a few seconds, strengthening the reliability of critical transport operations and passenger-facing digital services.

Following successful testing, ATV initiated a progressive fleet-wide rollout, integrating Stellar's solution into existing onboard equipment during scheduled maintenance.

The SMAU recognition highlights the value of collaboration between technology innovators and public transport operators in addressing real-world challenges. As mobility systems increasingly depend on real-time information, the project demonstrates how intelligent network orchestration can support more resilient, efficient and connected public transport.
