A connected asset is deployed in a remote location. Everything worked perfectly during testing, but once it reaches the field, the connection becomes unreliable. Data stops arriving, remote access disappears, and the conclusion comes quickly: there simply isn’t coverage here.
But often, that is not actually the problem.
There may be perfectly good cellular coverage available. You are simply connected to the wrong network.
The problem: Mistaking network coverage for connectivity
When businesses deploy connected assets, connectivity is often treated as a simple decision. Choose an operator, install the SIM, and assume that wherever that operator has coverage, the asset will stay connected. When the signal disappears, it feels natural to blame the location.
But one operator’s coverage is not the same as cellular coverage as a whole. One network may struggle at an industrial site, along a transport route, or in a rural area, while another performs perfectly well in exactly the same place. Move a few kilometres and the situation can reverse.
This creates an important distinction. There is a big difference between being somewhere without connectivity and being somewhere without access to the particular network your device is using.

If one cellular network is unavailable or its performance deteriorates, another may provide the connection needed. This changes the question from “Does my operator work here?” To “What is the best connectivity available here?”
