London, June 23, 2022 – Stellar makes history as it receives the World’s first certificate on sustainability in Space, from the SSR entity.

The SSR, which stands for Space Sustainability Rating, is an innovative and practical tool to support space actors in designing their missions and managing their operations more sustainably and responsibly. It officially launched at the 4th Space Sustainability Summit, hosted by the Secure World Foundation and the UK Space Agency. The SSR has been developed over the last six years by a consortium composed of the MIT, the European Space Agency, the World Economic Forum and EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne).

The SSR aims to recognize, reward, and encourage space actors to design and implement sustainable and responsible space missions to ensure the long-term sustainability of the space environment. It provides a unique rating system enabling space actors to comprehensively and transparently assess their missions’ impact on the space environment and other operators, as well as practical guidance on how to improve sustainability performance & practices.

“The flourishing space economy, and ultimately our success, depend on a safe, sustainable space environment that the Space Sustainability Rating (SSR) strives to bolster,” says Damien Garot, Co-Founder and CEO of Stellar. “By becoming the first organization to accomplish an official rating, Stellar demonstrates its commitment to catalyze positive change. We hope this achievement will serve as an inspiration for the industry to join us and embark upon the space sustainability journey.”

Already at this early stage of Stellar’s journey to bring fast, reliable, and secure internet connectivity to its automotive, enterprise, and governmental customers, Stellar was awarded the SSR Bronze Rating with One Bonus Star and promised to continue working to make Stellar thoroughly sustainable – all in alignment with the company vision for sustainability in Space and on Earth.

Due recognition must be given to everyone, who made this event possible, including all the SSR members Adrien Saada, Florian Micco, Dr. Minoo Rathnasabapathy, Simon Potter, Prof. Danielle Wood, and Prof. Moriba Jah.
